Community Safety Alert: Beware of Pickpockets |
||
|
We are encouraging residents, commuters and visitors to remain alert when travelling through busy streets, shopping areas, Tube stations and train stations, where pickpockets often target unsuspecting and vulnerable people. Pickpockets can be highly skilled and may work alone or as part of a group. They often take advantage of crowded environments, distractions and busy rush-hour periods to steal wallets, mobile phones, bank cards and other valuables without victims noticing immediately. How to Protect Yourself ✅ Keep your phone, wallet and other valuables in secure, zipped pockets or bags. ✅ Carry bags across your body and ensure all compartments are closed. ✅ Avoid keeping wallets or phones in back pockets or easily accessible outer pockets. ✅ Stay vigilant in crowded areas, particularly when boarding or exiting public transport. ✅ Be cautious if someone attempts to distract you, bumps into you, or invades your personal space unnecessarily. ✅ Keep a close watch on your belongings and never leave bags unattended. Look Out for Vulnerable People We encourage everyone to look out for elderly relatives, friends and neighbours who may be more susceptible to becoming victims. Sharing crime prevention advice can help protect those who may be less aware of current criminal tactics. If You Become a Victim 📞 Report the incident to the police as soon as possible via 101 or online at www.met.police.uk. 📞 Call 999 if the crime is taking place or if a suspect is still nearby. 💳 Contact your bank immediately if your cards have been stolen and monitor your accounts for any suspicious activity. 📝 If safe to do so, try to remember descriptions of any suspects, including clothing, distinctive features and the direction they travelled. By staying alert and taking simple precautions, we can reduce opportunities for criminals and help keep our communities safe. #CommunitySafety #Pickpocketing #StayAlert #CrimePrevention #MetEngage | ||
